My experience at Xerox has taught me that crisis is a very powerful motivator. It forces you to make choices that you probably wouldn't have made otherwise. It intensifies your focus, your competitiveness, your relentless desire to attain best-in-class status. I want to do everything I can to make sure that we don't lose that now that we're back on track.

Employees are a company's greatest asset - they're your competitive advantage. You want to attract and retain the best; provide them with encouragement, stimulus, and make them feel that they are an integral part of the company's mission.

Jobs encouraged Page to get rid of everything in Google that wasnt working, and focus on the things that make Google great, like search.

Instead of telling people, "Get a mentor and you will excel," we should be telling them, "Excel and you will find a mentor."

When proteges reach a position of power, they can both "pay it back" by helping their mentor when needed and "pay it forward" by helping others.

True leadership stems from individuality that is honestly and sometimes imperfectly expressed... Leaders should strive for authenticity over perfection.

There are so many products and things out there, and so many communities, that the process of editorializing and curating collections of items is what's going to be a big driver.

My favorite things in life don’t cost any money. It’s really clear that the most precious resource we all have is time.

It's better to hang out with people better than you. Pick out associates whose behavior is better than yours and you'll drift in that direction.

Do what you love

Get on a rocket ship. When companies are growing quickly and they are having a lot of impact, careers take care of themselves. And when companies aren’t growing quickly or their missions don’t matter as much, that’s when stagnation and politics come in. If you’re offered a seat on a rocket ship, don’t ask what seat. Just get on.

Create an inclusive environment - I think people really look for that. They want to feel like they’re working for a company that really values their diverse thoughts, in a culture where people will listen to them, and where they feel like they have skin in the game.

As all entrepreneurs know, you live and die by your ability to prioritize. You must focus on the most important, mission-critical tasks each day and night, and then share, delegate, delay or skip the rest.

I made a conscious decision not to tell anyone in my life. Now I tell people – don’t tell anyone your idea until you have invested enough of yourself in it that you are not going to turn back. When a person has an idea at that conception moment it is the most vulnerable – one negative comment could knock you off course.

Don't follow your passion. What you take out of the world...is much less important than what you put into the world. Follow your contribution instead. Find the thing you're great at, put that into the world, contribute to others, help the world be better.

I've always had that gratitude that I had the opportunity to pursue my potential. So I think my story says that, when women are given the chance and the opportunity, that we can achieve a lot. We deliver. We can make the world a better place, one butt at a time.

The big thing is to focus all of your energy on is product/market fit. Get to a product that people are adopting very quickly, or that you can reliably sell repeatedly. To some extent, everything else(culture, management, etc) is secondary. Don't take your eyes off the prize.

I'd never worked in fashion or retail. I just needed an undergarment that didn’t exist.

Start a company or join a startup and learn what the process of building a company feels like. It's almost impossible to learn any other way.

I think failure is nothing more than life’s way of nudging you that you are off course. My attitude to failure is not attached to outcome, but in not trying. It is liberating. Most people attach failure to something not working out or how people perceive you. This way, it is about answering to yourself.

To be an entrepreneur, you have to be willing to be completely vulnerable and think entirely for yourself. I imagine those can be learned, but I am not sure.

If somebody can do something 80 percent as good as you think you would have done it yourself, then you’ve got to let it go.

In his book, Behind the Cloud, Benioff spells out what he learned from Ellison. He states, "Always have a vision, be passionate, and act confident, even when youre not."

Don’t solicit feedback on your product, idea or your business just for validation purposes. You want to tell the people who can help move your idea forward, but if you’re just looking to your friend, co-worker, husband or wife for validation, be careful. It can stop a lot of multi-million-dollar ideas in their tracks in the beginning.
