Big Break
Bhusri, who also became familiar with cloud computing companies as a venture capitalist with Greylock Partners, made a suggestion to Duffield over brunch at a Truckee diner that they should start a new software-as-a-service company. Bhusri said he believed “someone is going to do what Salesforce is doing, but for HR and finance.”
Philanthropy
The philanthropic Workday Foundation launched after the company’s IPO and was funded with a Workday stock grant. The foundation’s mission is to break “the cycle of poverty” by helping to find jobs for people “who don’t have great access to employment" . The foundation supports groups like the Harlem Children’s Zone, a renowned nonprofit serving the educational needs of poor children in that New York City neighborhood.
