Personal
Mikaila Ulmer founded a successful company, Me & the Bees Lemonade at the age 4. She initially started by signing up for two local children's business competitions and her product which was an immediate hit slowly ended up on the shelves of Whole food. Shortly after that, she appeared on ABC's hit reality show "Shark Tank" and secured a $60,000 investment. The visibility it received on the show and investment from Raymond John helped grow the sales and expand the business.
Big Break
When Mikaila was just four, she was stung by a bee twice in a week and her parents suggested she channel her newfound fear of Bees into a research project, so Mikaila began reading about bees and was soon fascinated by them and started learning all about what they do for the eco system. Around the same time her Great Granny Helen, sent her family a 1940's cookbook, which included her special recipe for Flax-seed Lemonade. So she thought of making something that helps the bees and uses her Great Granny’s Recipe. That's how Me & the Bees Lemonade was born. It comes from her Great Granny Helen's flax-seed recipe and her new love for bees.
Social Entrepreneurship
Me & the Bees Lemonade was a sweet success from the start. Year-after-year, Mikaila, sells-out of her Me & the Bees Lemonade at youth entrepreneurial events while donating a percentage of the profits from the sale of her lemonade to local and international organizations fighting hard to save the honeybees. That is why she touts: Buy a Bottle…Save a Bee.
